tattoo aftercare

Here at Louielou Tattoo, we use two aftercare products: Protex Antibacterial Soap & Hustle Butter Tattoo Care.

Before using either of these products, make sure to read the ingredients to confirm that you are not allergic to anything in them.

In a nutshell, tattoos are like scabs: they get dry and itchy and the most important thing to remember is to not scratch your healing tattoo, do not go in the sun, do not go swimming and make sure to follow our tattoo aftercare instructions outlined in the next dropdown :)

Day One:
One hour after your tattoo, remove the tattooist applied wrap and wash your tattoo with warm water and Protex antibacterial soap. Pat dry and let your tattoo air dry for the rest of the day and night.

Day Two:
Wash your tattoo with Protex antibacterial soap and warm water as soon as you wake up. Pat dry. Once your tattoo is completely dry, apply a thin layer of Hustle Butter. Depending on the size of the tattoo, a thin layer will be 5c to 10c piece.Hustle Butter

Continuation:
From day two, apply a thin layer of Hustle Butter twice a day for 5 to 6 days.
Do not expose your tattoo to the sun for a minimum amount of two weeks.
Do not go swimming at the beach, in spas and pools, or soak your tattoo in water for a minimum amount of two weeks.
Do not put sunscreen on your tattoo until it is completely healed.
Avoid dirt, sand and don’t let your pet touch or lick your tattoo until it is completely healed. Do not scratch or pick your tattoo.

Please Note:
It is normal for your skin to flake and dry up while your tattoo is healing, a tattoo is a wound and should be treated as such.
If you follow these instructions, your tattoo will be on the way to the best healing process, however, Louielou Tattoo does not guarantee the healing process of your tattoo as every skin heals differently.
If you have any irritation to the soap and/or cream, please stop use immediately. Please keep your Protex bar soap for tattoo and personal use only – do not share it with anyone.

For certain tattoos and/or areas of the body, we do occasionally use Secondskin Tattoo Bandage or Fixomull bandage.

These products are used for tattoo healing and they act in a similar way as our aftercare products do.
Sometimes, tattoo artists prefer using these types of bandages rather than aftercare products depending on the client and their skin type.

If you are interested in getting Secondskin or Fixomull on your tattoo, please speak to your tattoo artist either before or during your session.

These are not products that we stock or sell in store so if it is something that you would like to use, please let us know before your booking and we will let you know where to buy it from or we will make sure we have some available for you on the day of your booking.
